  • Four Balanced State Budgets
    • As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and chairman of three department budget subcommittees(Agriculture, DEQ and DNR), Sen. Green has helped craft four balanced state budgets that put Michigan’s fiscal house in order.
  • Authored Michigan’s official petition for a federal Balanced Budget Amendment, approved this year (Senate Joint Resolution V)
  • Strongest 2nd Amendment champion in the state
    • Allow law-abiding citizens to carry in pistol free zones with additional training (Senate Bill 59 Legislature passed, vetoed)
    • Ended Michigan’s gun control prohibition on the possession of short-barreled rifles and shotguns (Public Act 63 of 2014)
    • Reformed Michigan’s firearms law (Public Act 242 of 2012, Public Act 3 of 2013)
    • Eliminate majority of pistol free zones and allow churches, hospitals and schools to permit licensed concealed carry (Senate Bills 112 and 213)
    • Eliminate county gun boards (Senate Bill 789)
  • Strengthen Michigan agriculture and agri-business
    • Expanded state’s economic development focus to include ag-processing (Public Act 22 of 2011)
    • Opened new export markets for Michigan agriculture products (MDARD budgets)
    • Reformed state inspection programs to get Ag commodities to market faster (Public Act 148 of 2012, Public Act 149 of 2012)
    • Urged Congress to require country-of-origin labeling rules on agriculture meat products imported into the United States (Senate Resolution 110)
  • Aquatic Invasive Species
    • Allow for commercial license suspension for trafficking of invasive species (Senate Bill 798)
  • Crime Victims’ Rights
    • Strengthened crime victims’ rights (Public Act 564 of 2012)
    • Combat human trafficking (Senate Bill 595)
  • Conservation
    • Revived and privatized civilian conservation program (Public Act 578 of 2012)
    • Exempt certain conservation easements from property tax (Senate Bill 113)
  • Education
    • Protected children’s college savings accounts from parents’ creditors (Public Act 553 of 2012)
  • Environmental regulatory reform
    • Reformed Michigan’s wetlands regulatory program to keep Obama EPA regulators out of the state (Public Act 98 of 2013)
    • Reformed state environmental regulations to protect Michigan property owners, farmers and job creators (Public Act 113 of 2012, Public Act 264 of 2012, Public Act 557 of 2012)
  • Foreclosure Prevention
    • Extended the state foreclosure prevention program (Public Act 72 of 2011)
    • Reformed Michigan’s mortgage laws (Public Act 442 of 2012)
  • Government Reform
    • Allow drivers to show electronic registration and proof of insurance (Senate Bill 391)
  • Health Care Quality
    • Improved the medical treatment of children with autism (Public Act 99 of 2012)
    • Improved access to physical therapy services by eliminating the state prescription requirement (Public Act 263 of 2014)
    • Create a pharmacy technician license (Public Act 285 of 2014)
    • Expand scope of practice of certified registered nurse anesthetists (Senate Bill 180)
    • Create license for professional midwives (Senate Bill 292)
  • Sales and Property Tax Relief
    • Reformed sales and property taxes to reduce the tax burden on property owners, farmers and job creators (Public Act 71 of 2011, Public Act 290 of 2011, Public Act 44 of 2013)
  • Transportation Infrastructure
    • Create movable bridge fund and require funding and oversight of publicly-owned movable bridges by department of transportation (Senate Bill 281)
  • Veterans
    • Waived initial state occupational license fees for veterans (Public Act 128 of 2014)
    • Exempt fund-raisers for active duty military and veterans held by veterans service organizations from sales tax (Senate Bill 209)

    • Reformed welfare to include lottery winnings in eligibility (Public Act 78 of 2012)
